Dorchester — A London Bedroom Community on the Upper Thames

The residential and commercial core of Thames Centre, where 70% of workers commute into London — known for the Dorchester Fair and its historic Mossley General Store.

Dorchester serves as the residential and commercial core of Thames Centre, a municipality formed January 1, 2001 through the amalgamation of the townships of West Nissouri and North Dorchester. The community was named for Sir Guy Carleton, Lord Dorchester, and was known as Dorchester Station until its name changed on May 3, 1961. Sitting in the upper Thames River watershed, Dorchester combines agricultural land, the expansive Dorchester Swamp wetland, and proximity to recreational spaces including Dorchester Community Park and the Thames Valley Parkway trail system. It's genuinely a bedroom community for London — 70% of workers here commute to the city. Community life centres on annual events: the Dorchester Fair, the Dorchester Car Show, the Run to the Fair 5K, and the Donnybrook Fiddle and Step Dance Competition, which draws competitors from across Ontario and the northeastern U.S. The Mossley General Store, dating to the early 20th century, remains a cherished local landmark.
