Old North was surveyed for development in the 1840s, but most of its homes were actually built during the late 19th and early 20th century building boom, in a range of treasured architectural styles. The neighbourhood is made up of three distinct pockets — Bishop Hellmuth, St. George-Grosvenor, and Broughdale — each with Victorian and Georgian-style homes marked by prominent brick, high ceilings, and deep lots, on streets shaded by old-growth tree canopies that took a century to grow. Along with Wortley Village and Woodfield, Old North is one of the three neighbourhoods most associated with historic and heritage homes in London. Its location next to Western University gives it a mix of established character and student/young-professional energy.
