Glanworth — Small-Town Charm Inside London's City Limits

Glanworth was a dispersed rural community within Westminster Township until it was annexed into the City of London in 1993, alongside Lambeth. The name comes from a small village in County Cork, Ireland — one account describes it as a corruption of "Glan-or," meaning "the golden glen." Glanworth remains surrounded by farmland and largely undeveloped, giving it a genuinely small-town feel just a 20-minute drive from downtown London. Its population was recorded at only 460 at the 2006 census. The neighbourhood's branch of the London Public Library operates out of the original 1923 Glanworth Library building, founded in 1913 as part of the Middlesex County Library system — when London annexed Glanworth in 1993, the branch was required to stay open through at least the end of 1997.
