The Medway district is anchored by post-secondary and healthcare institutions: the University of Western Ontario (Western University), University Hospital, Brescia University College, and Huron University College all sit within it. Its best-known residential neighbourhood, Sherwood Forest, sits just north of Orchard Park off Wonderland and Gainsborough Roads, and developed on the site of Dr. Russell Schram's farm in three phases — 1960, 1963, and 1964 — part of a larger wave of development in the area (developer Bill Davies had confirmed plans for a $7.5-million, 500-home development in the nearby Brescia Heights area back in 1955). Sherwood Forest is defined by its 1950s-and-60s-era housing, its proximity to Western, and its access to nature: the Medway Heritage Valley Environmentally Significant Area borders it to the north and east, with trails leading to Medway Creek. Sherwood Forest Mall, just west of the neighbourhood, is the area's main commercial centre.
